Long-distance relationship can be very tough. Even though they take a lot of effort and work, it doesn’t mean that they are something negative. If two people love each other, and if they trust each other mutually, there are no seas deep enough nor mountains high enough that can separate them. There are some things that people often don’t say when being in long distance relationships, though.
Some people remain quiet because of the bad experience and some of them just don’t feel like talking about that. If you are about to start a long distance relationship and you actually don’t know what to expect, here are some things you need to have in mind:
1. People won’t take you seriously when you say that
You know, a lot of people don’t believe that couples can be faithful to each other when they are not together. Wrong! If two people love each other and care enough, a third person can never ruin their plans. If you really care about something, it will work. It has to! So don’t bother your pretty little head with jealous people and follow your own way.
2. Your laptop will be your best friend
Skype calls, messaging, emails, and other stuff are probably something you will do every day. It is difficult to maintain a stable relationship if you don’t make any effort. I know it will be difficult to see you love on the screen without being able to hug him, but this situation is just temporary. Maybe he has gone far away to study and to find a good job so he could provide you with everything you deserve. Remember, the end justifies the means!
3. You will make a lot of tough choices
Sometimes when you miss your partner badly you will want to move to him, even if he is miles away. That would mean leaving your friends and family. In situations like that, you will have to make some tough choices. Questions like: “Is he worth it?” or “Does he love me enough?” will be something you’ll think about all the time. The most important thing is to relax and not to hurry. Don’t make a decision that you are going to regret later. Once you become 100% sure that he is the one, move to him!
4. Commitment is essential
If the two of you want this to work, you will have to commit to each other. That means no flirting and no hitting on other people. A rule is a rule. Respect your partner if you want him to respect you, but don’t forget to have fun. As simple as that!
5. There will be things that will remind you of him
It can be a song you used to listen together while you were looking at stars, or that love movie that makes you cry every single time. The truth is that almost everything will remind you of your partner. You just need to find some strength to move on and to stop sweat the small stuff. In the end, you were the one who accepted that kind of a relationship. Now show to yourself and to everyone else that you are stronger than you thought you were.
6. You will cry a lot
You will cry, but it will be because you miss your partner and not because he did you some harm. Please remember that crying is sometimes good because that way you letall the toxic things out of your body. Trust me, after you cry, you will feel much better. Then you will tell yourself that you need to get your shit together and move on with your happy life. That’s the only way to success.
7. You will be jealous
There will be many times when you will fight with your guy because he took a selfie with that hot chick from his college. And there will be times when you man will be angry because some handsome boys are always around you. Listen, this is normal. If you let your jealousy to kill your relationship, it means that you never loved him enough. This test is only for the strongest ones, so think twice if you are one of them.
8. You will learn things about yourself
When someone you love is miles away, you learn to cope with pain. You learn that you are actually much stronger than you thought, and that feeling is amazing. Never doubt your strength, but also learn from your mistakes. That is the only way to be truly satisfied and fulfilled.
9. Communication is key to happy relationship
When the two of you figure out that the only way of communication is through your laptop, you will cherish your talk much more. You will share all your plans and ideas with your partner, and you will enjoy listening to his. Communication is very important when the two people are far away from each other, so use it wisely.
10. If your relationship survives distance, it will survive anything
Being in a long distance relationship has some pros and cons. The good thing is that the two of you will develop some strange, deep bond that will keep you together no matter what happens. Also, if your relationship survived all that time that you didn’t spend together, it sure can survive anything else!
